Spring 1999
Goodbye and Thank you
by Lynn DeAsis and Linda Abundiz
Bill Brill, a member of IBEW Local 1245, was our outstanding President for the past 5 years. He has served us very well for 15 years in other positions on our board including Treasurer and Vice-President. He will be missed. Bill has moved on to pursue some of his other interests but we are sure that the environment and social change will always be a part of his agenda.
Yolanda Reynolds, a contributing editor for La Oferta Review, joined the SVTC board in 1990. She also served as Secretary on the Executive Board. She has written articles for our newsletter, and represented us at community meetings. She has an outstanding public service record and continues to work at increasing public awareness of environmental justice issues in our community.
Mark Sharwood has served as SEIU Local 1877’s (Service Employees International Union) representative to our board for many years before he moved to Sacramento. He has worked tirelessly for economic justice, focusing on the low-wage, immigrant workforce. In the “Justice for Janitors” Campaign, he helped expose the low wage and unfair treatment of people in the service industry. Among his many talents, he helped to design the creative layout of our newsletter.
Lil Ruscigno is one of SVTC’s founding board members, and has given us years of her caring support. She was a Public Health nurse representing SEIU Local 715. She has served on many committees, including as SVTC Treasurer, to assure the health and safety of our county’s workforce and to protect our community.
Fadi Saba joined the SVTC Board in 1995. He was the chairperson of the Santa Clara County Greenbelt Coalition which included many environmental groups. He is now the Environmental/Transportation Aide for County Supervisor Pete McHugh. Our many thanks go to Fadi for his support and help on our Board.
Larry Tilley came to us from the Berryessa Citizens Advisory Council and served on our Board since 1993, and as one of our Vice-Presidents. As a retired research scientist for the US Geological Survey, he was very active in community environmental organizations. He was also extremely interested in the development of youth sports and coached Little League and Big League baseball and football. Larry entered into rest on August 20, 1998. He will be missed.
Lynn DeAsis is SVTC Board President and Linda Abundiz is SVTC Office Manager
