ICRT Strategy
The strategy behind the International Campaign for Responsible Technology relies on the unique conditions of Silicon Valley and the strength of international networking. Analogous to the high-tech industry's own practice, we model success in Silicon Valley and share it with other regions of the world suffering the environmental consequences of high-tech development. Locally we enjoy proximity to advanced industry expertise and corporate decision makers. Since many of the largest electronics firms are headquartered in Silicon Valley, the issues we raise directly capture the attention of high-tech executives. Whatever we accomplish locally drives the cutting edge of environmental practice the whole industry world wide. By linking with people around the world who are confronting high-tech health and environmental impacts, we have established an international exchange and mutual support network regarding problems and solutions, and leader and laggards in the electronics industry. By constantly expanding and nurturing this network, called the I-CRT, we are working to ensure that the high-tech industry and governments become accountable to its host communities and people and use the best practices to improve health and safety and reduce environmental impacts.

Successful efforts to transform the global expansion of high-tech electronics requires an international strategy. We use the leverage provided by corporate shareholder resolutions to encourage and negotiate with major firms to reduce toxic pollution from their suppliers and subcontractors around the world. We've built an international network of people working to clean up the high-tech industry by offering technical assistance and support to many local efforts--both within the US and in several countries--to reduce high-tech pollution. By participating in national and international forums with industry, government, academics and grassroots activists, we are able to directly influence the debate regarding acceptable terms of the global expansion of the high-tech industry. In short, we think locally and act globally.
