European Union Directive on Waste from Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE)

Two important directives on E-waste went into force in the European Union (EU) when the final text of the long-awaited EU WEEE and RoHS Directives was published in the EU's official journal. These directives were debated hotly on both sides of the Atlantic.

Fourth draft of WEEE Directive (May 2000)
Second Draft of WEEE Directive

The WEEE Directive has been challenged as threatening free trade. The American Electronics Association has developed its position on this. The Clean Computer Campaign has developed its own analysis responding to the AEA suppositions.

Letters have been written to the European Union and there has been a letter writing campaign in the U.S. as well.
