Directives on Waste from Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE)

Two important directives on E-waste went into force in the European Union (EU) when the final text of the long-awaited EU WEEE and RoHS Directives was published in the EU's official journal. These directives were debated hotly on both sides of the Atlantic.

The WEEE Directive had been challenged as threatening free trade. The American Electronics Association had developed its position on this and the Clean Computer Campaign developed its own analysis responding to the AEA suppositions.
