5 ELECTRONIC WASTE COLLECTION PILOT PROJECTS

This project is an outgrowth of the EPA Common Sense Initiative. The subsequent paper is a detailed review of 5 pilot e-waste collection programs conducted between 1996 and 1998.

The following counties/cities are featured:

  • Binghamton, NY/Somerville, MA
  • San Jose, CA
  • Hennepin, MN
  • Union County, NJ
  • Naperville and Wheaton, IL

The principal conclusion -- municipalities sponsoring these collection programs lost significant amounts of money, often between $ .20 and $ .50 per pound of equipment!

See page 2 for a table outlining costs per pilot program.

Check out the paper about 5 county electronic collections programs. Please beware it is 98 pages long.

To view and/or print you must have the Adobe Acrobat viewer, available at no charge.
