Intel Code of Conduct
One of our campaigns is to pursue corporate responsibility with electronics companies. Be sure to send the letter below.

The electronics industry is the fastest growing industry in the world and is an increasingly global industry The Campaign for Responsible Technology is building an international network of activists and groups in various countries where the electronics industry is expanding.

Two of the key issues we have identified are:

  1. the development of strong and uniform international environmental standards to discourage companies from migrating to countries with weak environmental and health standards, and
  2. the development and adoption of policies that ensure that subcontractors are held to the same high standards of conduct as the parent company.

What we want from the company: Through this phase of the campaign, we want the companies to demonstrate that they are willing to provide important environmental health and safety information to their share holders and to the communities in which they operate.

An important first step is to compile a listing of the company's international facilities, their subcontractors and to seek disclosure of their policies, procedures and practices.

As we work to ensure the maximum environmental protection for our communities and workers in the US, we must send a clear message them dumping our environmental problems on to Third World is not acceptable. If companies are not held accountable by the public and their shareholders, companies will continue to shift manufacturing offshore and subcontract out the dirtier and more hazardous portions of their work.

What you can do. We are asking people to write letters to Craig Barrett, the CEO of Intel, (the world's largest and most profitable semiconductor company which set the pace for other semiconductor manufacturers). (see letter). Ask them for specific information about their worldwide operations, and insist that they operate these facilities at the highest standards to protect the environment and their workers.
